In this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to write a blog on WordPress.
How To Write A Blog On WordPress
WordPress is the most blogging and CMS platform in the world, with over 30% of all websites on the internet powered by WordPress. Writing a blog on WordPress is actually a lot easier than you’d think, but don’t worry, I’ll show you step by step how to write a blog on WordPress.
For this tutorial, we’ll be using a clean install of the Beans framework which you can download here.
Go To Posts
Go to ‘posts’ in the left sidebar as you can see above and click on it, that’ll take you to a list of your current posts. By default, you’ll find a post already there named ‘Hello world’. You can either edit this or delete it depending on what you’d like to do.
Click on the ‘add new’ button to create a fresh post.
After you’ve clicked ‘add new’ you’ll be taken to the post editor. This works just like a normal text editor and allows you to give your post a title and a body. It works in a similar way to Microsoft Word but has a lot more flexibility and allows you to do more.
It is important to remember that the post will be displayed in the style of your theme or how your WordPress developer has set up your website.
For creating subheadings and variety in your text, as you can see below by changing paragraph in the drop-down menu, you can choose headings formats which make your text bigger and bolder.
Once you press return, it will default back to the paragraph style.
Just like Microsoft Word, the post editor allows you to change the style of the text. You can also add lists and align your texts to add some variety.
This is bold.
This is italics.
And other things such as using quotes.
“Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art. Making money is art and working is art and good business is the best art.” -Andy Warhol
As you can see above, you can also click on the toolbar toggle (shift+alt+z) for more options such as colouring your text.
By clicking on ‘add media’, you can search your existing library for images or videos you have already uploaded, upload more or insert them from a URL like we have at the top of this page with James’ Youtube video.
Lastly, you have a few options for publishing your post.
Save draft: So you can save your work and come back to it later.
Preview changes: Allows you to view how the post will look without publishing it.
Publish: When it’s finished, you can publish your post for the world to see.
You’ve Done It!
